About Us
Viktor and Irene Schulz (third and second from the left) immigrated to the Tulsa area from Germany in 2000. In 2011, Viktor started volunteering at a rehabilitation facility in Missouri. He began with a small aquaponic greenhouse project there, which grew into his passion for aquaponics. Over time, he dreamed of creating a larger facility. After years of planning and hard work, GreenerGrounds became a reality. Viktor personally designed much of the breathtaking greenhouse.

Managed by Viktor and his wife Irene, the 28,000-square-foot greenhouse can yield up to 200,000 heads of lettuce annually and 21,000 pounds of tomatoes.
Practices
TOMATOES:

The tomato section of the greenhouse extends beyond the lettuce beds. Here, meticulously arranged in rows, 980 Dutch buckets cradle a total of 1,960 thriving tomato plants.

Hydroponic tomatoes are grown in a soil-less system where the plants receive their nutrients directly from nutrient-rich water. This water is continuously circulated to ensure the plants receive a consistent supply of essential nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus, which are crucial for healthy growth and fruit production.

As the tomato plants mature, they are regularly pruned and trained to maximize airflow and light penetration, leading to higher yields and better fruit quality. With proper care and management, hydroponic tomato plants can produce high-quality, flavorful tomatoes throughout the year, regardless of seasonal limitations.

Presently, we cultivate two distinct varieties of tomatoes: the robust beefsteak and the flavorful heirloom cherry.
